Every minute of every day,someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor, a person like you who makes the choice to donate.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Medical Guidelines for Joining the Registry

1.

Age: between 18 – 55 yrs

2.

Weight: < 50 kg

3.

Blood pressure: If you are hypertensive and BP is controlled by medications or diet then you are eligible to join PNDP

4.

Allergies: If you are allergic to dust, pollens, animals, medications and other environmental allergens you can register yourself as marrow donor

5.

Asthma: You can register as a marrow donor if you have asthma, controlled on medications other than oral steroid and you do not had severe asthmatic attack in previous 5 yrs that require IV medications.

6.

Autoimmune disorder: As far as you are medically fit and your disease is controlled you can register as a morrow donor.

7.

Cardiac disease You are not eligible to join registry if you have any type of cardiac disorder or underwent cardiac bypass surgery, in past or present.

8.

Respiratory disease: If you have chronic airway obstructive disease like emphysema you are not eligible to join registry.

9.

Epilepsy: If you have well controlled epilepsy on medications you will join registry

10.

Sexually transmitted disease: If you have sexually transmitted disease, in past and taken complete treatment and your VDRL is negative then you are eligible to donate your bone marrow. But if your VDRL is positive then you are not eligible to join registry.

Hepatitis: You are not eligible to join registry if you are HBV or HCV positive in past or present but you can join registry if you had hepatitis with HAV

Surgery

Bleeding disorder: If you are suffering from any congenital or acquired bleeding disorder like haemophilia, you are not allowed to join registry

Cancer: You are not allowed to join registry if you had cancer or treatment taken for cancer

15.

Vaccine: You are able to join registry if you received common vaccines.

16.

Malaria: You are allowed to join registry but If you had malaria in previous 6 months,  you may temporarily deferral from marrow donation

Blood transfusion: If you have a history of blood or blood product transfusion in past you can join registry but the case will be evaluated on individual basis.

18.

Tuberculosis: If you had TB in past and taken complete treatment and your x ray chest is normal your are allowed to join registry.

Organ transplantation: If you have history of major organ transplant like bone marrow, kidneys, liver or heart you are not eligible to join registry

20.

Kidney problem: If you have any serious or chronic kidney problems you are not eligible to join registry. But if you have history of kidney stones and the condition is well controlled you can join registry.

21.

Cold or flu: You are allowed to join registry if you have common cold or flu.

22.

Pregnancy: Bone marrow collection is not allowed during any phase of pregnancy but you can join registry and donate bone marrow 6 months after delivery

Travel: You can join registry regardless of your recent travel.

Medications

Diabetes: If you are diabetic and your disease is controlled on diet or on oral medications you do not have diabetes related serious health problems then you are allowed to join registry but if you are on insulin to control your diabetes or serious health problems then you are not eligible to join registry.

26.

AIDS: If you are suffering AIDS or HIV positive then you are not eligible to join registry and donate marrow.
